Thursday, June 6, 2019, at 8:30 PM Sabretti’s held the 9th ANNUAL NEW JERSEY STATE HOT DOG EATING CONTEST on the St. Therese Carnival main stage at Horseshoe Lake in Roxbury.
The 2019 event was once again a standing room only event, as the St. Therese Carnival was packed as people watched the seven contestants, as they competed for the $1,000 in cash prizes. The contestants were given 10-minutes to consume more hot dogs than the other competitors. This official contest is different than the Nathans contest as no professional eaters can enter, and contestants must consume the hot dog & bun together and no dunking, which makes this contest a little more difficult.
“We are proud once again to hold the official NJ State Hot Dog Eating Contest at the St. Therese Carnival, as it benefits a good cause while providing a contest where hot dogs are eaten as intended rather than allowing contestants to cheat using water to wet the buns like some other contests allow.” Stated Owner Rohan Shetty.
Winners of the 9th Annual New Jersey State Hot Dog Eating Contest:
1st Place: Ryan McManus from Hopatcong NJ – 11 ½ Dogs ($500)
2nd Place: Peter Ritter from Hampton NJ – 11 Dogs ($300)
3rd Place: Jeff from Mount Arlington NJ – 10 Hot Dogs ($200)
For a Good Cause:
For the second year in a row, Sabretti's strategically held the NJ State Hot Dog Championship at the St. Therese Carnival, to help the Parish with their biggest fund-raiser of the year.
According to Michael Calabrese, Carnival Committee Chairman of St. Therese. “This event continues to be a major fundraiser for the Parish with this year’s funds helping to continue our many community building activities at the parish.”
