Today the annual Leap in the Lake took place on Lake Hopatcong to a crowd of over 800 people, and more than 400 jumpers, which was another record for the Lake Hopatcong Elks fund raising for special needs kids.

While the day was clear, the temperate was in the low 30’s, with wind chills in the single digits.  The jumpers didn’t find much relief as the Lake Hopatcong water was even colder, but that didn’t discourage the leapers that were brave enough to take a plunge into the lake, to benefit the special needs kids and Camp Moore.

Leap in the Lake 2019

Leap in the Lake 2019According to the rescue team, they had to Drill, Chain Saw and punch through 12” of ice in order to make the opening for the jumping teams. Throughout the event, this emergency team monitored everyone’s actions to ensure the safety of the jumpers. Suited in dry suits these first responders were ready for action if anyone had an issue with the shock of the sudden cold water, as they leaped, jumped and even swam in the ice-cold water.

Luckily, no one seemed to have an issue as they took the great plunge into the cold waters of Lake Hopatcong to benefit this great cause and to benefit this charity.

This is the 10th Annual Leap in The Lake which supports the Special Needs Kids and Camp Moore
