Action Together New Jersey (ATNJ), the largest progressive grassroots group in the state, is proud to endorse Mikie Sherrill, candidate for Congressional District 11
“As the 2018 midterms approach we want to see New Jersey represented in Congress by leaders who share our values and our vision for this state,” says Uyen Khuong, Executive Director of Action Together NJ. “We believe that Mikie Sherrill is that leader for the 11th Congressional District who will advocate for access to affordable healthcare, quality education, and our environment. She has built a campaign around working with grassroots groups and advocating for policies that will help our community. We are proud to endorse her for Congress.”
Naval Academy graduate, Navy Pilot and former federal prosecutor, Mikie Sherrill spent almost 10 years on active duty in the United States Navy. She earned a degree from Georgetown University and eventually joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey. As an Outreach and Reentry Coordinator, Mikie developed programs to help prevent crime in the community. These programs developed trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve and helped people leaving prison to gain employment, housing and education in order to restart their lives. Mikie has a Bachelor’s degree from the United States Naval Academy, a Master’s degree in Global History from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Law Degree from Georgetown University.
Mikie Sherrill responded to the endorsement: “Action Together NJ embodies the power and importance of grassroots organizing that has been building in New Jersey since the 2016 election. I share the belief that we need new leadership in Congress, and look forward to being a proud advocate for our residents in Washington. I am thankful for the Action Together NJ endorsement.”
