Local Law Enforcement from around the lake would like to commend and wish safe travel to all those riders participating in the Police Unity Tour.
The tour begins its annual 4-day bicycling pilgrimage from Northern NJ to Washington D.C. today.
For the next 4 days, Law Enforcement Officer’s throughout the United States, and even internationally, will begin their journey to the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial in Washington D.C. culminating on May 13 in a candlelight vigil on the National Mall in remembrance of the Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty.
The purpose of the Police Unity Tour is twofold. First, to raise awareness of the thousands of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty throughout the United States. Secondly, to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial Fund which currently provides for the construction of a National Law Enforcement Officer’s Museum and the preservation of the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial.
Thanks to the dedication and sacrifice of those riders who have participated through the years, the Police Unity Tour has, thus far, been able to donate almost $23 million to the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial Fund.
Sheriff Strada, and the men and women of local Law Enforcement offices, salute our law enforcement brothers and sisters as they, once again, embark on this honorable journey.
