Cram the Cruiser April 2017 – Hugh Success - Over 45,000 Pounds of Food Collected
Municipal police Departments (Including Hopatcong), Sussex County Sheriff's Office and New Jersey State Police Troopers of Sussex County teamed up for the first annual county-wide "Cram the Cruiser" food drive on April 14-15 to collect food donations for Sussex County residents.

The Jefferson Township Museum, also known as the George Chamberlain House, will have an open house on Sunday, May 7, 2017, from 1 to 4 pm. Admission is free. Costumed docents will be available to talk about this Victorian home. The theme of this month’s exhibit is “Pteridomania: The Victorian Fern Craze.”

More than 33,000 Americans – about 91 a day ¬– died from opioid overdoses in 2015, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. Morris County is hardly immune from the growing epidemic as fatal opiate overdoses in the county rose from 43 in 2015 to 64 in 2016. This year, there have been at least 23 overdoses in less than four months, which is a pace that would exceed last year’s total.

NJDEP Lifts Drought Warning for Morris and Sussex Counties
Following months of sufficient precipitation, Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin today lifted a drought warning for 12 of 14 counties in the northern, central and northern coastal regions of New Jersey and removed a drought watch for four counties in the southwestern part of the state.

Mother Nature gets assist on walleyes

Nature needs an assist from fish hatcheries.
There were no walleyes in Lake Hopatcong in 1987, when most of the state's walleyes lived in the Delaware River, and fishing regulations called them pike perch in the 1950s and '60s.
