As always, the Lake Hopatcong Foundation is seeking to enhance their events through your feedback, so here are the new and exciting changes in the Lake Loop for 2018.

The 5K Trail Run: Presented by members of Salt Shakers trail running club, this course promises to be one of the more unique run/walks you’ve participated in. The course is 1.5 miles long and those running the 5k will run/walk the course twice.  New this year, the 5k trail run is sanctioned by USATF and will be timed with awards presented at the end.

What are USATF-Certified Courses?

A USATF-certified course is a road race course whose distance has been certified for accuracy.

Courses must be certified for any road running performance to be accepted as a record or to be nationally ranked.  Furthermore, running a race on a certified course allows you to accurately compare your time to performances run on other certified courses because you can be sure the distances were the same. No one can truly establish a personal best if the course distance is not accurate.

Bike Ride: While Lake Loop is a Ride, not a Race, the event offers some competitive challenges.  The timed climbs represent the most significant climbs on the routes. New this year LHF will be using Strava to track top finishers of the hill climbs on the bike route.  If you would like to participate Download the Strava app on your phone and join the Lake Loop group on event day.  From the data collected in Strava we will award prizes to the top finishers.

Strava: Features for athletes, made by athletes.

Strava turns every iPhone and Android into a sophisticated running and cycling computer (and we work with your GPS watches and head units, too). Start Strava before an activity and you can track your favorite performance stats, and afterwards, dive deep into your data.

In addition, after crossing the finish line(s), stay and enjoy plenty of live entertainment, food, a beer tent (first beer included with registration. Second beer $5.00. Two beer max. ID required.), massages, photo booth, hula hoop party and more!
