Stigma Free Morris: Aug. 15 Opioid Forum to Feature Former NFL Star
Super Bowl Champion Vance Johnson to speak
The Opioid Crisis: A Community Approach to Prevention, Treatment and Recovery will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 15, in Rockaway Township. New Jersey’s own Super Bowl champion and world-class athlete Vance Johnson will deliver the keynote address during this free event.

Johnson is a former wide receiver for the Denver Broncos. His best season was in 1989, when he recorded 76 receptions for 1,095 yards and seven touchdowns. He is currently an advocate for addiction recovery for athletes post-career.
Also speaking at the event will be Morris County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Brad Seabury and U.S. Attorney’s Office Opioid Coordinator Erica Liu, who will highlight efforts on the federal level to combat the growing problem of opioid abuse and the joint state/federal partnership to address the crisis.
A panel discussion featuring Barbara Kauffman, Director of Prevention Services at McPik; James Curtin, President and CEO of Daytop New Jersey treatment center; Morris County Sheriff Jim Gannon; and Pastor David Ireland of Christ Church will wrap up the evening.
The event, which will feature leaders from law enforcement and treatment and recovery programs in our region, combines the efforts of Office of the Attorney General, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Morris CARES, Morris County Prevention is Key, the Community Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Morris.
Morris County is Stigma-Free. The Morris County Stigma-Free Communities Initiative is a county-wide program which aims to eradicate the stigma associated with mental illness and substance use disorders. We are dedicated to raising awareness of these illnesses by creating an environment where affected individuals are supported in their efforts to achieve wellness and recovery.
